Acetylene Gas Plant Production Process

Acetylene gas is produced in a generator with the help of a reaction between calcium carbide and water. The reaction is also known to give off a great deal of heat which must be moderated water for production of explosion-free acetylene. Calcium carbide delivered into the generator from the top. The reaction is given below:

CAC2 + 2H2O → C2H2 + CA(OH)2

The reaction must be carried out in a controlled atmosphere. It is recommended that the generator be equipped with pressure and temperature sensors combined with non-return valves for ensuring safety.
